Disasters and emergencies can come in all sizes and types. Events such as major storms, freezing rains, earthquakes, and flooding, are just some of the types of disasters that can cause major damage to your electric utility’s power poles and lines. It is important to note that utility lines can carry electric loads from 7,200 volts up to 12,400 volts in residential areas. If there larger transmission lines in your area they can carry up to 230,000 volts of electricity.

It is important for you and your family to understand that if you see downed power lines in your areas, stay away from them. The following is a short training video that will help emphasis the dangers and will also give you some practical safety tips on what to do if you see downed utility lines in your community.
